PACO DE LUCIA (1947-2014)
This article is about Paco's main instruments. At the same time the focus is on Hermanos Conde guitars with rosewood back and sides and spruce top.
In my opinion, these are the instruments that Paco loved most and played longest on stage.
Paco also played traditional flamenco guitars made of cypress wood and occasionally instruments made by other guitar makers.
It was in the late 60s early 70s when Paco de Lucia paid attention to the instruments of the Conde brothers. At this time he played a guitar of Ramirez.
The three brothers Faustino, Julio and Mariano began guitar constructing in the early 40s for the widow of Domingo Esteso using the label of the widow. Gradually they built their own instruments with the label Sobrinos de Domingo Esteso and Hermanos Conde.
They developed their own type of flamenco guitar and wrote flamenco history. A strong bass, brilliant guitar with 670 mm scale - back and sides of rosewood. Instead of the traditional cypress wood for back and sides they used rosewood. The "flamenca negra" was born - it had more volume and more depth in the sound - a concert guitar.
From there Paco was seen almost exclusively with Conde "negra" guitars - he played them on stage all his life.
Due to the popularity of Paco other guitarist played Conde guitars as well. There is almost no famous guitarist who does not possess a guitar of the Conde brothers.
Paco played over the years various Conde "negra" guitars - mostly from the 70s or 80s - built by Faustino Conde - from the shop at Calle Gravina No. 7.

Dieser Artikel handelt von Paco's Hauptinstrumenten. Zugleich liegt der Fokus auf Gitarren von Hermanos Conde mit Boden & Zargen aus Palisander und Fichtendecke.
Dies sind meines Erachtens die Instrumente, die Paco am liebsten und am längsten auf der Bühne spielte.
Paco spielte auch traditionelle Flamenco Gitarren aus Zypressenholz und gelegentlich auch Instrumente anderer Gitarrenbauer.
Paco de Lucia wurde Ende der 60er Anfang der 70er Jahre auf die Instrumente der Conde Brüder aufmerksam. Zu diesem Zeitpunkt spielte er noch Gitarren von Ramirez.
Die drei Brüder Faustino, Julio und Mariano begannen Anfang der 40er Jahre für die Witwe von Domingo Esteso Gitarren mit dem Label der Witwe zu bauen. Nach und nach bauten sie auch eigene Instrumente mit dem Label Sobrinos de Domingo Esteso und Hermanos Conde.
Sie entwickelten einen eigenen Typus von Flamenco-Gitarre und schrieben Flamenco-Geschichte. Eine bassstarke, brilliante Gitarre mit 670 mm Mensur – Zargen und Boden aus Palisander-Holz. Sie verwendeten statt des traditionellen Zypressenholz für Zargen und Boden Palisander-Holz. Die „flamenca negra“ war geboren – sie war kräftiger und hatte mehr Tiefe im Ton – einfach konzertanter.
Paco wurde ab da fast ausschliesslich mit Conde „negra“ Gitarren gesehen – er spielte sie sein ganzes Leben lang
auf der Bühne.
Das fand natürlich auf Grund der Popularität Pacos seine Nachahmer. Gibt es doch beinahe keinen berühmten Gitarristen, der nicht auch Gitarren der Conde Brüder besitzt.
Paco spielte über die Jahre verschiedene Conde „negra“ Gitarren - meist aus den 70er oder 80er Jahren – gebaut von Faustino Conde – aus der Werkstatt in der Calle Gravina Nr. 7.

PACO'S 1975 FAUSTINO HERMANOS CONDE GUITAR
Paco's "flamenca negra" guitar from 1975. This “negra” he played for many years. It is a 1975 Faustino Conde with German spruce top, rosewood - Pau Ferro - back and sides and a 670 mm scale.
Over the years the guitar was several times repaired, it can be easily recognized by the rosette even though the rosette was recoated. Check the 1976 rosettes (same as Paco) at the rosette gallery to the see the “Paco rosette” in better quality “normal” and “recoated”.

Pacos "flamenca negra" von 1975. Diese "negra" spielte er viele Jahre lang. Es ist eine Faustino Conde von 1975 mit deutscher Fichtendecke, Zargen und Boden aus - Pau Ferro - Palisander und einer 670 mm Mensur.
Mit den Jahren wurde die Gitarre mehrfach repariert. Dies kann man leicht an der Rosette (wieder)erkennen, da diese überlackiert worden ist. In der Rosetten Galerie kann man die Rosetten von 1976 (gleiche wie Paco) in besserer Qualität in “normal” und “überlackiert” betrachten.

Paco's
1975 Pau Ferro Conde was repaired several times over the years - in the end this corresponded to a restoration. Parts of the rosette and the label were replaced.
The 1975 Conde Paco played until his death in 2014 - a Faustino Conde from 1975
with German spruce top, Pau Ferro rosewood back and sides and a 670 mm scale.
In 2012 this guitar was in repair at Mundo Flamenco.

PACOS RESTAURIERTE 1975 FAUSTINO HERMANOS CONDE
Pacos 1975er Pau Ferro Conde wurde im Laufe der Jahre mehrfach repariert - am Ende entsprach dies einer Restaurierung. Teile der Rosette und das Etikett wurden ausgetauscht.
Die 1975er Conde spielte Paco bis zu seinem Tod in 2014 - eine Faustino Conde mit deutscher Fichtendecke, Zargen und Boden aus Pau Ferro Palisander und einer 670 mm Mensur.
2012 befand sich dieses Instrument zur Reparatur bei Mundo Flamenco.

PACO'S 1980 FAUSTINO HERMANOS CONDE
On his concert tours with his nephew Jose Maria Bandera Sanchez and Juan Manuel Canizares Paco played also a 1980 Faustino “negra” with German spruce top, Indian rosewood back and sides and a 652 mm scale length.
1992 he gave this guitar to his brother Antonio. Antonio's son Antonio Sanchez sold this instrument to flamencoguitarsforsale.net. mundo-flamenco.com purchased this instrument.
This unique instrument is now owned by fg.NET and part of the personal collection. It is a highlight of the virtual flamenco guitar museum and fg.NET is proud to own such an instrument.

PACOS 1980 FAUSTINO HERMANOS CONDE
Auf den Konzert-Tourneen mit seinem Neffen Jose Maria Bandera Sanchez und Juan Manuel Canizares spielte Paco auch eine 1980er Faustino “negra” mit deutscher Fichte, Boden und Zargen aus indischem Palisander und einer 652 mm Mensur.
1992 gab er diese Gitarre seinem Bruder Antonio. Antonios Sohn Antonio Sanchez verkaufte dieses Instrument an flamencoguitarsforsale.net. mundo-flamenco.com kaufte dann dieses Instrument an.
Dieses einzigartige Instrument ist jetzt im Besitz von fg.NET und Teil der persönlichen Sammlung. Es ist ein Highlight im virtuellen Flamenco Gitarren Museum und fg.NET ist stolz so ein Instrument zu besitzen.
